We wrote about the properties of rain fabric and how to care for it in a separate article, which we recommend reading anyway. However, the presence of an insulating layer introduces some changes in the rules for using rainwear containing synthetic winterizer. This is a modern filler made entirely of synthetic fibers, which insulates, but does not increase the weight of the product. Its production involves bonding the fibers together, which is done using a special glue or a special heat treatment. Each of these methods, however, is more or less susceptible to damage from improper washing, which breaks the bonds between the fibers.
As a result, the synthetic winterizer begins to clump after prolonged automatic washing. It is slightly more difficult to damage the filler during hand washing due to its low intensity, but it is quite possible at another stage - spinning. This is not recommended: just wring out the laundry slightly and carefully lay the product horizontally so that the moisture will drain and dry naturally. In this case, the insulating layer will not be mechanically damaged, will have access to air, and thus will quickly dry on its own.
It is better to remove stubborn stains from the surface sooner, rather than relying on longer washing times: the less time a garment spends in the drum, the better for the synthetic;
Choose “ Delicate” or “Synthetics” mode for washing in the washing machine. You can also wash clothes by hand, but you should do it more gently, taking into account the force of the pressure;
There is no special laundry detergent for synthetic winterizers: dirt, even if it manages to penetrate the garment, will not be able to penetrate the synthetic fibers. Therefore, washing liquid for rain jackets will be sufficient to clean the insulating layer;
If possible, wash items made of rainproof material and synthetic winterizer separately from other items. The main purpose of such separation is to reduce the mechanical effect of other items on the structure of the filling;
If the product consists of separate items, such as a hood, belt, etc., they should also be separated. All buttons and zippers should be fastened, drawstrings or cords should be fastened, and pockets should be checked;
For colored things, the washing temperature should not exceed 40°C. For white things - not more than 30°C, otherwise the synthetic winterizer may turn yellow;
To prevent the warming layer from creasing, the garment can be washed together with special silicone balls. We do not recommend replacing them with tennis balls - these are sporting goods that may differ in composition, quality and stiffness;
It is necessary to dry the products horizontally: hanging them on hangers can cause moisture dissipation and sagging of the synthetic winterizer, which will lead to deformation of the garment.
Exaggerate the amount of laundry. Try not to put clothes in the washing machine drum unless you really need it - this will keep the material in good condition for a long time. Frequent washing is not recommended for raincoats;
Soak the clothes. Remove difficult stains by other means.
